We interview approximately 55 applicants every year for 12 PGY1 residency spots. We encourage all interested to apply.
The following requirements are used to select qualified applicants for interviews... All Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
We will not accept or review any applications submitted via any other means (i.e. mail or e-mail).
· Your application must include… Ø three recent letters of reference Ø your personal statement Ø Dean’s Letter or Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE) Ø transcripts for medical school and USMLE / COMLEX examinations · We will NOT consider applicants who… Ø Have not yet passed Step 1 Ø Have failed USMLE Step 2 CS (if not yet taken we will interview, but will not rank without passing CS score) Ø Are not eligible for Alabama Licensure: see the ALBME administrative code for full eligibility requirements but the qualification criteria regarding examinations are… s If you have taken step 3 you must have passed it within 3 attempts. s You must pass all 3 steps within a seven year period. s All steps must be successfully passed within a combined total of 10 attempts. · We give preference to candidates who have… Ø Prior US clinical training that includes patient decision-making. For international graduates this could be a transitional year or “fifth pathway”, but not an observership. Ø A clear, demonstrated interest in Family Medicine. Ø Graduated from medical school within the last five years. Ø USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores above 200 / 82; COMLEX scores above 500 / 82. Ø Direct ties to Huntsville or the region (Alabama or a neighboring state) such as having lived here before or having done undergraduate studies here, etc. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES In addition to the above criteria you must also … Ø Have a valid ECFMG certificate on file in ERAS Ø Have at least one reference letter (among the three required) from a US physician Ø Not be a graduate of one of the following medical schools; graduates of these schools are not eligible for Alabama licensure (see the ALBME administrative code, page 3-5) § Universidad Tecnoglica de Santiago, Dominican Republic (UTESA) § Universidad Eugenio Maria de Hostos, Dominican Republic (UNIREMHOS) § St. Christopher’s College, Dakar, Senegal § University of Health Sciences Antigua, St. Johns, Dominican Republic Ø Be eligible for employment authorization. If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident the following VISA options are available … o We sponsor H1B Visas only for candidates who passed Step 3 prior to match day. o We accept ECFMG sponsored J1 Visas (the only option if haven’t passed Step 3)
