 Vacation
 Fifteen working days vacation accrued annually
 
 Sick Leave
 Fifteen working days compensated sick leave, if needed, per academic year
 Maternity Leave
 Up to twelve weeks in compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Sick & vacation time may be used towards paid time for maternity leave. However, any absence greater than 21 work days will extend residency.
 
 Paternity Leave
 Up to twelve weeks in compliance with the FMLA. Vacation time may be used towards paid time for paternity leave. However, any absence of greater than 21 work days will extend residency.
 
 Continuing Medical   
 Second and third year residents have five working days per year.
 
 Site Visit Days
 Five site visit days combined total for second and third year, can be taken in either year.
 Health Insurance
 Health Insurance through Blue Cross & Blue Shield/Viva Health is available.
 Life Insurance
 The University provides group universal life insurance.
 Accidental Death & Dismemberment
 Accidental death and dismemberment is provided for each resident.
 Professional Liability
 Occurrence-type malpractice insurance is provided by the University.
 Dues and Fees
 The University pays the following:
• Alabama Licensure Fees
• County and State Medical Society Dues
• American Academy of Family Physicians Dues
 
 Tuition Assistance
 The University pays for one three-hour course per term for full-time regular employees after six months of employment. Educational Assistance is available for spouses and unmarried dependent children under age 26 of full-time regular employees, after a one-year waiting period. Courses must be taken at the Birmingham campus.
 
 Advanced Life Support Course Fees
 Tuition provided for Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics, Neonatal Resuscitation and Pediatrics Advanced Life Support courses.
 
 Lab Coats
 Two lab coats are provided, total cost not to exceed $60.
 Moving Allowance
 A substantial moving allowance is provided to incoming residents. The amount of allowance is determined annually.
 
USMLE Step III
 
Paid for by the program if taken during residency.
