Observership

PLEASE NOTE : WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING OBSERVERSHIP APPLICATIONS.

Our observership program is currently ON HOLD, pending revisions. We do not have a timetable for accepting observership applications again but we will post the application form, along with any criteria and timeline revisions, as they become available so please keep an eye on this website for further information.

Introduction
We offer observership slots each calendar month from August - March for up to one month in duration. These slots are offered on a first come first serve basis to applicants who meet the criteria described below only after all documentation requirements are met.

Eligibility and Requirements
To be eligible for an observership you must meet the following minimum requirements…

You must be ECFMG certified
You must have taken and passed USMLE Step 1.
If you have taken USMLE Step 2 CS, you must have passed it on your first try.
If you have taken Step 3, you must have passed it in fewer than 3 attempts.

Selection

Please be aware that in considering applications, we give preference to applicants who have…

Passed USMLE Steps 1 and 2 on their first attempts at each.
Achieved scores above 82 (or 200) on USMLE Steps 1 and 2.
Graduated from medical school within the last five years.
A demonstrable connection to the state of Alabama such as being raised or educated (undergraduate, medical, or other) in or around Alabama
A clear, demonstrable interest in Family Medicine.

After your application documents are reviewed, you will be notified of our determination. If approved, you must submit copies of immunization records for MMR, DTaP, chicken pox, and Hepatitis B, as well as a TB skin test administered in the past 12 months.

In addition, if you are not a US citizen or a permanent resident, you must provide a copy of your current visa status.

Only after these documents are received will you be assigned an observership slot.
